Rob Reiner appeared on this week's episode of Larry David's HBO comedy sketch series, "Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Happiness." The late actor and filmmaker played George Washington in a sketch that took a thinly veiled jab at President Donald Trump.

In the show's second episode, which aired Friday, July 3, Reiner appeared as Washington before a crowd of colonists and announced he would not seek a third term.
"I believe that no man should serve more than two terms as president," Reiner, as Washington, said. "And I hope that future presidents will follow my lead."
David, playing a colonist, pressed him further: "What if some future president doesn't follow your lead and runs for a third term?" Reiner's Washington replied that such a move should be prohibited outright. David's character then took the bit further, clearly alluding to Trump without ever naming him.

"Well, what if there's some [expletive] in office, some narcissistic [expletive], who doesn't follow the Constitution? He could use the presidency to enrich himself and his family. He could send troops into American cities to terrorize and even kill American citizens, all to distract from the fact that he's friends with a pedophile," he said.
Jimmy Kimmel, who has sparred with Trump for years and had his late-night show pulled temporarily last fall over remarks about the Republican response to Charlie Kirk's killing, also appeared in the sketch. Playing another colonist, Kimmel added his own satirical dig.
"Are you suggesting that the president would taketh the time to challenge anyone who dared make fun of him? As if he were a big baby?" he said.

The series is executive produced in part by Barack and Michelle Obama through their Higher Ground production company. It takes an improvised, comedic approach to major moments in American history, timed to the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding.
Reiner filmed his role before his death in December 2025. The acclaimed director and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death at their Brentwood home on December 14.
Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested soon after and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, along with a special allegation that he used a knife. Word of the couple's deaths broke a day after Rob and Nick reportedly got into a heated argument during a holiday party at Conan O'Brien's home.

Following the deaths, a source told People that Rob and Michele "could never reach stability with Nick," who has spoken publicly in the past about his struggles with drug addiction and homelessness.
"They tried everything — giving him space, keeping him close — but his struggles are so deep. It's just a parent's worst nightmare," the source said. Another insider added that the couple "tried in every way to help their son."
Nick is currently being held without bail while awaiting trial in Los Angeles. He has pleaded not guilty.
