Alexa Demie has set the record straight on retirement rumors — and her answer is as enigmatic as the actress herself.

Alexa Demie has finally addressed the long-running rumors that she is stepping away from acting following her breakout role on the hit HBO series "Euphoria" — whose confirmed end last month only fanned the flames.

Since buzz surrounding the third season first began to circulate, whispers about the 35-year-old star's alleged retirement have steadily grown louder.
The speculation traces back to a 2020 conversation between Demie and Nathan Fielder on "The A24 Podcast," which resurfaced on social media and quickly took on a life of its own.

In that interview, Demie spoke candidly about the toll that auditioning had taken on her earlier in her career — from difficult casting directors to her own anxiety — and how, over time, the process had gone from nerve-wracking to numbingly routine.
"I got to the point where I was like, 'I'm over this, and I kind of don't even want to do this anymore,'" she admitted.
Fans ran with the clip. But Demie's words didn't end there. "Then that's, obviously, everyone always says, 'When you're ready to quit, something happens.' But, like, it's kind of true," she continued — a nod to the role that would change everything: Maddy Perez in "Euphoria."

When Fielder pressed her on whether she had genuinely considered walking away from performing altogether, Demie didn't shy away.
"I wasn't booking anything ever. Ever. It was really hard, especially because I feel like a lot of the lead roles I would go out for would go to a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl," she said.
For Demie, who is half-Mexican, the struggle cut deeper than rejection alone — it raised the question of whether Hollywood had space for Latina actresses at all. "Even for Maddy, I think some people saw her as that. They didn't really see her as me, so I had to go in and prove myself too," she recalled.

Landing the role was a turning point, but it didn't mark the end of her doubts. Filming the second season of "Euphoria" brought its own wave of exhaustion.

"Two was the hardest season, by far," she told i-D magazine in an interview with novelist Ottessa Moshfegh. "After I finished filming that, I was like, '[Expletive] everything. [Expletive] the show — everyone. I don't want to do this.'"
That breaking point became a catalyst for something more deliberate. "After season two, that was the catalyst for me to pull away from Hollywood, away from acting and being in the limelight, and come back into myself," she explained.

So — is she leaving?
Speaking with the Hollywood Reporter, Demie pushed back against the narrative that the decision was ever out of her hands.
"It's like, did you ever think that I don't want it?" she said. "People really take the authority out of your hands. What happened to my ability to choose? I like my life like this, and I wouldn't change it."

She also revisited the frustration of auditioning for roles that seemed written to exclude Latina women. "I was reading [a character description], and it really hit me — and I kept having that experience," she said. Yet even at her lowest, quitting was never truly on the table.

"I was sick of going into those rooms, and this was during that time when you're young and every few months you're just like, 'I'm quitting, I'm quitting.' But knowing me, I never would have quit. I'm more of the energy of like, 'No, I'm going to show you I can do it.'"

It's worth noting that retirement rumors were further fueled by Demie's comparatively sparse acting credits — a stark contrast to "Euphoria" co-stars Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney, all of whom have maintained prolific careers outside the show.
But a quieter schedule, it turns out, is a choice — not a concession. "There are goals, and things that I want, but I'm choosing to keep that private," she said.
Demie may be speaking up, but she's giving little away. True to form, the air of mystery that has long defined her presence in Hollywood remains very much intact.
