"My life was always broadcast to millions, but what was actually happening in my life was never shown — in fact, much of it was deliberately kept hidden," Collin said in a recent interview. "For years, other people told my story through headlines, television episodes and public speculation."
Now, the 21-year-old says that's about to change. "Now, finally, I'm sharing what was really happening behind the scenes," he continued. "This book is about truth, survival, resilience and finding my voice after years of being silenced."

"If my story helps even one person feel less alone or gives them the courage to tell their own, then every difficult page was worth writing," he added.

Collin appeared on the TLC reality series "Jon & Kate Plus 8" alongside his parents Jon and Kate Gosselin and his seven siblings.
The show ran for five seasons from 2007 to 2009 — the same year Jon and Kate divorced — chronicling his life from toddlerhood through adolescence. Following his parents' split, Collin continued to appear onscreen in the spinoff "Kate Plus 8."

He later moved in with his father and began speaking out about the alleged emotional and physical abuse he says he suffered at his mother's hands. He currently remains estranged from Kate and several of his siblings who have stayed close to her.
Kate has responded through her attorney, Richard Puleo, declining to engage with the allegations. "She never wants to comment because she always knows that this gets taken out of context," Puleo told Fox News in 2024. "She doesn't want to comment. Doesn't need to. The record speaks for itself."

The statement followed Collin's claim that Kate zip-tied his hands and locked him in a specially built basement room as a child, with cameras monitoring him.
At just 11 years old, he was left frightened after Kate had him admitted to a mental health facility, following diagnoses of behavioral and psychiatric conditions he believes he never had.

Collin has since reportedly shared private medical records with The U.S. Sun to support his claim that he has no mental illnesses or behavioral conditions. He also wrote a desperate letter in crayon as a child, begging his father to "save" him from the facility.
"It was rough. I definitely went through it a lot as a kid from my mother's end. So it was tough," he told the outlet in 2024. "I just remember being isolated from my siblings and constantly taking the fall for her emotions or the tough things going on in her life."
"I was 100% treated differently [than my siblings]," Collin added. "I was isolated and I was taken away from them and I didn't eat dinners with my family."

Since stepping away from the spotlight, Collin has largely kept his personal life off social media. During a TikTok live in August 2025, however, he expressed a desire to open up more and reconnect with his siblings.
"As you can see, I don't post on Instagram, I don't post on TikTok much," he said. "I'm still getting in the groove of things, but, you know, I've realized I love to share my videos with you guys."
"Unfortunately, I don't talk to my siblings, and I very much wish that we did and that they knew who I actually was because we don't know each other at all," he added.
"In the Shadow of Eight:Surviving the Reality of My Childhood" is slated for release on October 13.
