David Harbour has finally opened up about his ex-wife Lily Allen's pointed album, "West End Girl," several months after its October 2025 release.

The record largely chronicles the breakdown of a marriage — and sparked no shortage of online conversation when it dropped. Allen has long drawn on her own experiences, and those of the people around her, as creative fuel.

While she has acknowledged that the album employs "artistic license," its lyrics touching on infidelity, violations of agreed-upon arrangements, and emotional manipulation were enough to set the internet ablaze.

Harbour addressed the body of work publicly for the first time during a Variety cover interview published Wednesday, June 10. "It was weird," he said. "I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that."

He was careful, however, not to go further. "I can't really say that much more," he added, "because it's my private life. In spite of the fact that a lot of people don't allow me a private life — I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won't speak about that."

When invited to push back on the claims woven into Allen's "West End Girl," Harbour declined — but offered a broader reflection instead. "Stories are complex," he said, "and that's why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn't my experience."

The actor also noted that channeling life into art is something he understands from his own side of the creative aisle. "My ability to use my experience comes through in the creation of 'DTF,'" he said, referencing his role in the limited HBO series "DTF St. Louis."

"I want to make things that make people feel safer. My particular talent is in allowing people to feel like they're not alone."

Harbour and Allen tied the knot in a low-key Las Vegas ceremony in 2020, officiated by an Elvis impersonator. Both shared photos from the occasion on their respective social media accounts — Harbour's post remains up on his Instagram to this day.

"In a wedding officiated by the king himself, the people's princess wed her devoted, low born, but kind credit card holder in a beautiful ceremony lit by the ashen skies courtesy of a burning state miles away in the midst of a global pandemic," he wrote at the time.

In February 2023, the couple went viral after appearing in an Architectural Digest video touring their Brooklyn townhouse. But the goodwill wouldn't last. By December 2024, Allen had been spotted without her wedding ring, fueling speculation that the pair had quietly parted ways.

That same month, the Daily Mail reported that she had resurfaced on Raya — the exclusive dating app where she and Harbour had originally crossed paths. Her profile, per the outlet, cheekily read, "Looking for someone to do couple's therapy with."

The publication subsequently alleged that Allen had returned to the platform not to date, but to investigate whether Harbour was maintaining a secret profile of his own — and whether he had been unfaithful.

Allen never publicly addressed either the sleuthing or the cheating rumors. Multiple sources would go on to confirm the split in February 2025.
