The Clooneys proved once again why they're one of Hollywood's most photographed couples, coordinating in matching black for the festival's opening night. But it was George's heartfelt tribute to his family that stole the show.

George Clooney stepped out on Wednesday evening, September 2, with his wife Amal Clooney for the opening night of the 83rd Venice Film Festival. As usual, the couple was dressed to the nines and commanded the red carpet the moment they arrived.

The pair coordinated in sleek monochrome black. Amal stunned in a floor-length gown featuring textured, crinkled fabric with vertical striations, a square neckline, and delicate double straps crisscrossing each shoulder.

The fitted, body-skimming silhouette was elevated with a sparkling diamond bracelet, drop earrings, and a glossy black patent clutch, while pointed-toe heels peeked out beneath the hem.

She wore her long brunette hair down in loose curls, with warm caramel highlights framing her face, and finished the look with soft glam makeup, a smoky eye, and a glossy nude lip.

George looked equally dashing in a classic black tuxedo with peaked lapels, paired with a crisp white pleated-front shirt and a black bow tie. French cuffs fastened with cufflinks were visible as posed alongside his wife.

His signature salt-and-pepper hair was neatly styled, and he rounded out the ensemble with polished black dress shoes. The couple posed arm in arm, all smiles, as photographers captured the moment.

George was honored with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the opening night ceremony, and the "Ocean's Eleven" star didn't miss the chance to spotlight his wife and their children during his acceptance speech.

The Oscar winner marked the milestone by touching on the importance of art and free speech, but he opened with a bit of self-deprecating humor. "When they tell you that you're gonna be getting a Lifetime Achievement Award, there are really only two things that come to mind," he began.

"The first is that, 'What an incredible honor this is.' Then the second is, 'Do they know something that I don't? You've been talking to my doctors, have you?'" George quipped.

"I am grateful to the friendships that I've made over a course of a lifetime," he said, though Amal was who his warmest words were saved for. "I am at a loss for words to describe how much I love my wife. How proud I am of her."

The actor-director then joked that he's also proud of "at least one of" their two children.

George and Amal, who married in Italy in 2014, share 9-year-old twins Ella and Alexander. "By the way, my two kids are the only two people that thought I was good in Batman," he said.

The Golden Lion was presented by George's "Jay Kelly" costar Laura Dern, along with a message from his "Ocean's Eleven" franchise costar Brad Pitt, who jokingly called his longtime friend "a really bad dancer" in a note read aloud by Dern.

"He can do, perform, accomplish, compete at most anything and does it better than any of us, but please, keep him off the dance floor," Pitt joked.

At a press conference earlier that day, George revealed he's leaning more toward acting than directing for the foreseeable future. He gave Amal another shoutout, sharing their plans to celebrate the big win.

"We're going to go find a fun place to have dinner, my wife and I," the "ER" alum said, before jokingly adding, "she's going to be wearing a very nice dress so we'll have to be careful where we go."
