Inside ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ Finale and How Her Kids Showed Her Support

After nearly a decade of couch chats, surprise duets and viral Kellyoke covers, daytime television said goodbye to one of its brightest hosts. The finale gave fans, staff and family alike one last chance to say thank you.

After a successful seven-year run, Kelly Clarkson has officially closed the final chapter of her namesake talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show." The last episode aired on Monday, August 31, marking a bittersweet occasion for everyone involved.

Still, the mood leaned more toward celebration than sorrow. To send the show off in style, showrunner and executive producer Alex Duda, Clarkson and the rest of the team built the finale around a "Kelly by Request" concept.

The special episode brought together some of Clarkson's most devoted fans alongside people who had been personally touched by the show's charitable work over the years. Each guest was invited to request a favorite song from her catalog.

The result played out like a career-spanning concert, blending greatest hits, deep cuts and behind-the-scenes anecdotes. One standout moment came via a Kellyoke performance of "Golden" from "KPop Demon Hunters," which Duda teased as the "most requested" song in the show's history.

Throughout the taping, the studio audience was reminded that they held a unique distinction: they were the "last audience to see Kelly on this stage."

"We just tried to make it be a celebration, especially that last episode, tried to make that be for the fans and help them help us say goodbye," Duda told People.

She continued, "And for seven years, we listened to them like, 'What songs did you want to hear and what moments did you want to see again?' So it seemed like the right thing to do was to do a whole show that was by request."

Clarkson, who called the final taping "bittersweet," had two especially meaningful guests seated in the audience: her children, River Rose, 12, and Remington Alexander, 10, whom she shares with late ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

The finale wove in throwback clips of the kids from their appearances on the show over the years. Near the end of her last day on set, Clarkson's children looked back on their favorite memories from the series.

River told her mom that hers was watching her "shine." River and Remy skipped requesting songs of their own, opting instead to ask for ice cream and a trip to Disney, which delighted the crowd.

"The Kelly Clarkson Show" left a significant cultural footprint during its run, earning 24 Daytime Emmy Awards, a haul largely attributed to Clarkson herself.

"She was a connector. We learned that very early on," Duda said. "The way she connected to people — that's why we knew we wanted a format where people sat on the couch next to each other, the celebrity next to the human-interest guest, because when you do that, extraordinary moments can happen that you won't see anywhere else."

Clarkson first announced her decision to step back from daytime hosting back in February, citing a desire to prioritize her children. In an Instagram statement, the multi-hyphenate said she was "forever grateful" to have worked alongside "the greatest band and crew" throughout the show's run.

She went on to explain that the choice, while difficult, would give her the space to focus more fully on raising her kids.

"This was not an easy decision, but this season will be my last hosting 'The Kelly Clarkson Show,'" she wrote. "Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives."

Clarkson added that "This isn't goodbye," confirming she still plans to release new music and continue her role as a judge on "The Voice."

"For now, I want to thank y'all so much for allowing our show to be a part of your lives, and for believing in us and hanging with us for seven incredible years," Clarkson concluded in her statement.
