Cara Delevingne Opened Up About How She Landed a Role in Taylor Swift's 'Patient Zero' Music Video

Cara Delevingne recalled the pitch, her instant reaction, and the praise she has for her pop star friend whose attention to detail left the model in complete awe.

In an October 2026 interview with Bustle, Cara Delevingne, 34, opened up about how her pop superstar friend Taylor Swift pitched the music video for her single "Patient Zero." The model said she didn't need time to think it over.

It all started with the song. The first time Delevingne heard it, she could hardly wait for its release so she could play it nonstop. Soon afterward, Swift called Delevingne while she was on her way home and shared her concept for the video. The model agreed right away.

"I love working with friends," she said. "It's the most incredible thing. But the scope of it, the idea, every single detail, the Easter eggs, all of it — it's unfathomable how someone can do all of those things and do them so well." She went on to call the 14-time Grammy winner truly brilliant.

On Screen

Swift directed the video, which features cinematography by Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki. The singer also stars alongside Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell. The story casts Farrell, 50, as Swift's toxic ex, who has since become involved with Johnson, 37.

Johnson's character turns to Swift for support after her relationship falls apart. Delevingne plays a woman Farrell's character was also seeing during that relationship.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly, who attended Swift's July wedding to Travis Kelce, also make cameos.

A Friendship With a Long Track Record

Delevingne and Swift have been friends for several years, and the pair have shown up for each other in public many times. In 2023, they attended a group dinner at Bond St in New York City with Selena Gomez, Sophie Turner, Brittany Mahomes, and Gigi Hadid.

That May, Delevingne attended Swift's Eras Tour stop at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The pop star returned the favor in May 2024, when she went to see Delevingne in "Cabaret" on London's West End.

Most recently, the two attended the 2026 Academy Museum Gala together and posed for photos. The model has also voiced her support for Swift's relationship with Kelce.

At the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, she told E! News she was thrilled for her friend. She noted that she saw something different in the couple and added that she would always be in Taylor Swift's corner.

Stepping Into Music

The video is not the only high-profile project on Delevingne's 2026 calendar. After about 15 years working as a model and actor, the 34-year-old decided to pursue a career in music. Fans had heard hints of her singing before, including her backup vocals on Fiona Apple's "Fetch the Bolt Cutters."

This year, she stepped into the spotlight as a musician with her debut album, "Not Normal." Delevingne said writing the record took three and a half years and was far from easy. Still, she said the process kept her grounded, and she is grateful for what music has given her.
