After decades in front of the lens, one British star has found a new passion that has her up before dawn. Her latest project shines a spotlight on a '60s icon whose journey mirrors her own in surprising ways.

Sadie Frost has spent much of her life in front of the camera, from commercials as a toddler to roles in cult classics like Bram Stoker's 1992 rendition of "Dracula" and 1994's "Shopping."

However, the actress has never been one to limit herself to a single path. Alongside her acting career, she ventured into fashion with her Frost French line and later moved into producing, all while raising four children.

Now she's carved out a new place for herself behind the camera as a documentary director. She made the leap after returning to school to earn a master's degree in filmmaking, with a focus on documentary filmmaking and women's careers.

"To be able to change careers at my age? I never thought this twist would happen," Frost tells People in a new interview.

Her latest project is "Twiggy," a documentary about the legendary 1960s fashion model. According to the multi-hyphenate, the fashion icon's story isn't all that different from her own.

"What is so inspiring about Twiggy to me is that she evolves with time, and I think I've done similar things in my life where I don't want to be or do just one thing," Frost explains, noting that Twiggy left modeling to act, then went on to sing, release albums, and launch fashion lines.

Reflecting on her own career change, Frost says, "And I don't want to be told I can't do something because of my age. I don't want to be pigeonholed. You can do anything whenever you want really, if you really put your mind to it."

She adds, "Life is about taking risks, and 'Twiggy' is a huge testament to that. To tell her story has been such an honor."

Frost's new chapter also arrived as her responsibilities at home began to shift. She shares three children with her ex-husband, Jude Law: actor son Rafferty, 29, model daughter Iris, 25, and actor son Rudy, 24.

She also has a son, Finlay, born in 1990, with her first husband, Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet, who was also her co-star in 1990's "The Krays." Once her children were older and she was "done with the school runs," she finally had more time to devote to her own pursuits.

"I suddenly had a lot more time on my hands," she says. "So then, okay, I'm still waking up at five in the morning, what am I gonna do for the next three hours? So I used it to study, edit, and all of that."

In a cover story for Hello!, Frost revealed that she had written a bucket list of everything she wanted to accomplish and started checking items off one by one.

"I love being a mum, but I also like living life to the full and feeling alive and engaged. Without school runs and managing the kids' diaries, I realised I could do so much more," she told the outlet.

She made her directorial debut with 2021's "Quant," a film about designer Mary Quant. Her second project, "Twiggy," came together almost by accident after Frost appeared on Twiggy's podcast, "Tea Time With Twiggy," to promote "Quant."

During their chat, Twiggy asked Frost what she was working on next, and at the time, the actress had nothing lined up. When Frost suggested making a film about the model, Twiggy wasn't exactly keen at first.

Funnily enough, that hesitation was exactly what spurred Frost on, and eventually, Twiggy came around. "She rang me back, and she said, 'I've actually thought about it. And if there's anybody I want to do it, it'd be you,'" Frost recalls.

"And we went for lunch, and we started talking. I just saw her, how tough, how strong she is. She is a survivor and doesn't want to be a victim of the fashion industry," she continues. "She had a few tragedies in her life, and she'd never let it define her."

Frost, who says she feels at peace working as a director, shows no signs of slowing down.

She is currently working on a documentary about "Quadrophenia," the 1979 film based on The Who's 1973 album, alongside the band's guitarist, Pete Townshend.

She also has a string of fashion projects in the works that she can't discuss just yet. And she hasn't stepped away from acting entirely. The 61-year-old has two upcoming roles in the films "Boxed-Up" and "The Chelsea Cowboy."
