Fans first got to know him as the teenage son of a chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin. Off-screen, he devoted much of his life to fighting for inclusion and better representation for people with disabilities.
RJ Mitte, who played Bryan Cranston's on-screen son, Walter "Flynn" White Jr., in "Breaking Bad," has died. The actor and passionate disability rights advocate passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas. He was 34.

In a statement, a representative for Mitte said, "It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte."
"RJ Mitte was best known for his role as Walter 'Flynn' White Jr. on AMC's critically acclaimed, award-winning series 'Breaking Bad,'" the representative continued. "Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion."

The statement also highlighted his advocacy work, "Beyond entertaining friends and family around the world, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's.
"He also served as president of The Mitte Foundation, supporting philanthropic efforts and community initiatives, while using his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities."
The representative closed by asking, "At this time, we ask people to respect the privacy of RJ Mitte's family and close ones."

The Brownsville Police Department told People that it received a call at 12:50 p.m. on Monday, and officers who responded to his home found him dead. "The cause and manner of death are still pending, as there is currently an ongoing investigation," the department said.
Mitte's representative later confirmed to Variety that he died by suicide.
The news has sent shockwaves through the industry and his community, with the Mitte Cultural District remembering the actor as a "friend, a partner and someone who genuinely believed in the power of arts and culture to bring people together."

"He believed that the Mitte Cultural District could serve as a bridge connecting generations, cultures, abilities, and communities through shared experiences and creative expression," an official statement from the organization read.
The tribute continued, "His commitment to Brownsville and his family's philanthropic legacy helped shape an extraordinary chapter in our cultural history, including our recent designation as a Texas Cultural District."
Like his on-screen character, Mitte lived with cerebral palsy, and he was a fixture across all five seasons of the AMC hit, playing the teenage son of Walter and Skyler White (Anna Gunn).
Airing from 2008 to 2013, "Breaking Bad" racked up 58 Primetime Emmy nominations and took home 16 of the awards. In 2013, the role brought him the SAG-AFTRA Harold Russell Award.
Mitte's screen credits extended well beyond his breakout series, too. He landed roles in ABC Family's "Switched at Birth" and the superhero series "The Guardians of Justice," while his earlier work included spots on "Hannah Montana" and "Everybody Hates Chris."
Speaking to the Love-It Film in an interview released in February, Mitte explained that the show had only helped him "be a greater advocate" in his life.
He carried that mission far beyond the screen throughout his career, serving as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's and leading The Mitte Foundation as its president.
